Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are dealing with stressful experiences on a daily basis. The school community is uniting to create a place where students feel safe to manage their emotions effectively. Our school is allowing us to use an empty classroom to create an atmosphere (safe space) of mindfulness for students to experience and learn ways to help them calm down and relax. This space will provide the opportunity for the kids to be in this environment comfortably, while I provide a sound bath (Frequencies from the instruments) while they lay down on the yoga mats. Creating a harmonious sense of belonging will help them with the basic idea that the frequencies from the instruments in this case the Steel tongue drum, and tabletop bar wind chime will relax and create a healthy inner self. It will also, help to build self-esteem and become calmer and more resilient to stress. The salt lamp will add a sense of peace to the environment. As we observe the success of this activity in the students' lives, students will be able to practice with the instruments and how to direct sound baths themselves, so that they can be in charge of the Mindfulness room. They will be able to facilitate these activities for other students in the younger grades. Therefore, the purpose of this project is to provide tools for the students to be in control of their emotions. By being mindful and self-reflective they will use these strategies to empower themselves throughout their lives.
