I need assistance raising funds to attend the PATHFINDERS Summer Institute at Indiana University Bloomington so I will be more prepared to utilize and implement applicable technology in my first grade classroom.
My students enjoy learning and want to be successful. Our class motto is: Be prepared. Be patient. Be positive. Be persistent. Be polite. They strive to exhibit all of these characteristics and more every day. Though challenges come their way, they keep pressing on to be the best they can be.
Every student has a hope, a dream, a goal to reach and with the right support each of them can do just that.
As an educator, I am consistently seeking ways to prepare them for the journey ahead. Technology is a vital part of engaging and preparing students as they move forward. My students are eager to get the chance to experience technology in the classroom and to apply it in useful and beneficial tasks.

The training and resources I will receive at the Pathfinders Summer Institute will prepare me to guide my students on a journey of discovery. The knowledge I will gain will enable me to implement coding in the classroom in a practical way. Coding is necessary for success in today's global digital society.

The course I will be taking, Coding as a Playground: ScratchJr + KIBO Robotics, is designed to help K-2 teachers integrate computer science, computational thinking, and robotics into daily learning in a playful and developmentally appropriate way. The program will teach me strategies to implement coding and robotics with a focus on literacy, creative problem solving, arts, and dance through hands-on projects. I will acquire strategies to promote a strong home-school connection and techniques to enhance community engagement through programming and robotics.
So many employers are in need of knowledgeable and capable employees to program the hardware and software necessary for producing their goods and services. The interactive lessons and activities my students will be involved in will prepare them for their future success. Preparing students for what's to come is an educator's challenge and privilege.
