Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Guess what? My students are the most amazing children. I am preschool teacher in Elizabeth, NJ. My classroom has 16 girls and 14 boys. (I work in a dual language school) They come from all different cultural backgrounds. The majority from low income homes. They come to school every day, eager to learn and explore. They are learning to understand about feelings and needs of others, and their behavior shows that they can feel empathy for others and can share their toys and take turns. Four year old children learn by playing with manipulatives, listening and looking at beautiful colorful books.
My Project
The students in my classroom come from all different backgrounds, from all parts of the world. I want to create a multicultural project in which we will all learn about the world around them.
I want to turn circle time into a trip around the world and invite each child to sit in a cardboard box which will represent his airplane throughout the theme.
Each morning, I will invite children to board their airplane and say, "Good morning, I will be your pilot today. We are going to discover... (example: Italy). Please fasten your seatbelts and have a good trip!" We will fill a suitcase with pictures and objects which represent the country you will be discussing, but in order to do that we will need an Apple Pro Notebook, to take virtual tours, and to print pictures, so the children can be expose to different cultures, learn about amazing places, cultures and people.
