My students are caring, thoughtful (and often hilarious) individuals. Coming from diverse backgrounds, my students have the opportunity to learn quite a bit about themselves and about others while in my classroom. Perhaps because they are growing up in a major city, my students often seem more mature than other 8th graders I've met. That being said, in the end they're just as excitable and joyful as any other 13 year old could be!
Every year I teach I am blown away by the students in my classroom.
They never cease to amaze me with their creativity and problem-solving capabilities. They think critically. They respond actively. And somehow, they make it all look pretty easy.
My Project
Every year I struggle to help students connect to the literature we read. To help them achieve this connection, I would like to give them their own journals and fun pens to help spark their creativity and interest. When we read the diary of Anne Frank, students are amazed to read the ACTUAL words of someone from history. I would like to help them create their own journals so that they can more deeply connect to the reading of Anne Frank's diary.
When you write your own thoughts down, your ideas become more permanent.
I hope to help my students see how rewarding it can be to take some time to be thoughtful about their own lives. By putting their own ideas down on paper, I hope they will see just how important their story is and be better able to relate to the words of Anne Frank.
