I teach incredibly motivated, intelligent, and hardworking yet under resourced and economically disadvantaged students in Brooklyn. More than 80% of the students at my school qualify for free lunch. 7th and 8th grade are a tough two years. You remember don't you? Friends, love, peer pressure and everything else overwhelming and frustrating you. You really just needed an outlet. Guess what! My middle school students have come up with the answer to teen angst. "Curious: The Middle School Agenda" A Literary Magazine for Teens by Teens, will launch its inaugural issue in the coming weeks! Students have been pushing a school-wide literary magazine as an outlet for exploring teen issues. Through poems, essays, fiction and art, students from across the school are submitting to this new journalistic venture. The students who formed the magazine are incredibly happy with its early success. However, currently, they are working on my (one) laptop. They are the managers, editors and graphic artists without a true workspace to call their own. We need your help! Be the generous soul behind "Curious: The Middle School Agenda." Help us to purchase a computer for our "office" (my classroom). Help my students have that outlet that we didn't have.....help make 7th and 8th grade the years to remember for the right reasons! Aren't you Curious?
