This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have some of the brightest and most hard working high school students on our campus. In our journalism class, the publication, The Cougar Press, is entirely run by the students. Their leaders are Ryan and Avenlea, who are the ones requesting the new gear for the class to use. It will help them take pictures of all the school events and record the weekly broadcasts. Along with our online and social media presence, we have a print paper that comes out every month with articles and pictures.
They will learn how to properly use advanced camera equipment that they may have never seen before. With a more advanced camera than a phone, our students will be able to create more, and higher quality content for all students and staff to enjoy. This class is one of the best on campus to prepare students for the work force. With the advanced gear, all students will be better prepared for the kind of gear they would use in their career.
In Their Own Words
We want to enable more of the students in the class to check out a camera and cover events going on around our campus. With another camera we will be able to have more photos taken and videos/broadcasts made on a consistent basis. This year we have a class of 42, which means there is more students who need access to the gear. The new camera will help with that.
As the leader of the broadcast department of the publication, a more advanced camera will allow all of the students to create better quality videos, broadcasts, and photographs. We have a very limited budget, so another camera in our small arsenal will be amazing for everyone. We are on a big campus and have a big class, so we have the potential to create more content.
As the main source of news on campus, our press's duty to report on a consistent basis. We want to be able to show all of the students, staff, and surrounding community what is going on at our school. We want to inform, but also captivate our audience which is where the camera will come in.
