Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach 9th and 10th grade, English to amazing and inspiring students.

We at Great Oaks Charter School believe success is achievable for every child.

We provide high-quality, college-preparatory education for children in 6th-11th grade and various after school activities to families from all over Wilmington.

Our students, mostly from Wilmington and surrounding areas, can and do achieve at high levels. Most aspire to go to college and we do everything we can to help them succeed there and in the future.

My Project

This project will focus on improving student writing as they journal about their experiences. Students will need to plan, revise, check edits, or even try a new approach to writing. The iPad and pen will allow me to edit their papers in real time using standard edit notations, which they currently can't receive because of our virtual learning environment.

With all of our teaching and learning fully virtual, this project will give me the resources to give students a truly full experience while learning online.

Technology is a barrier in great teaching online, and these materials will help ensure that I am able to give students the experience they deserve.

While virtual learning is no replacement for in-person learning, these additional resources will help me by making it easier to deliver and prepare great lessons.
