My students need Primary Lined Journals in order to become great writers, columnists, authors, reporters, journalists, and illustrators!

My students are young, innocent, enthusiastic, and vibrant. They come to school with expectations for excitement and engagement. My students demonstrate strength, perseverance, and commitment at six and seven that I have not seen in many. Ninety-nine percent of the student population at the school is low-income in an urban environment, and 64% of the school population are English Language Learners.
My first grade students deserve to have doors opened for them, experiences presented to them, and tools to success provided for them.
These students deserve to have the best education with no "if, ands, or buts" due to the environment that they live in. My classroom is full of minds that can be agents for change in our world. We are continuing to build a classroom environment that allows us to grow, learn, and thrive!
Every day my students experience writer's workshop. This means that students have mini lessons on types of writing, skills to be successful writers, and foundational grammar skills that will help them grow in their writing. During writer's workshop, students are given choice about their topics, and as the teacher I conference with them to see how I can help them grow individually. Presently, my students do not have journals to keep their writing in the same place. Developmentally, my first graders need primary lined paper that will help them print neatly to format sentences, and we use loose leaf paper that often gets torn, bent, or lost.
Primary lined journals will help keep my students writing organized and in one place.
Students will be able to keep their writing more cohesive, look back on their writing pieces, and make reflections for their future writing. Students will use these journals every morning when they enter the classroom as a way to share their thoughts and experiences. Students will also use these journals during writer's workshop. Throughout the course of the school year, these primary lined journals will become a timeline of personal experiences and writing development for students. They will be able to journal their entire way through first grade!
