Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Title 1 School - Developmental kindergarten is such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning to read, write, and count, while some of their classmates are learning to imitate sounds or hold a paintbrush/pencil. In this class, we are building a literacy community around what we have in common and our shared experiences. I teach in a wing of five kindergarten classes: four general education/ESL and a one bilingual. As my students make gains in my classroom, they begin to try small chunks of the day with their typically developing peers. My classroom is about building skills to get included. The work we do in this classroom is building relationships, staying with the group, following directions, and accessing general education content in different ways. We celebrate little wins together each day.
Going forward with our new normal 10 students are face 2 face and 8 are virtual.
These numbers change often and we are needing resources to further continue our learning virtually and in-person. We plan to use these resources as a fundamental tool in guided reading. In kindergarten they need to have a firm foundational skill in reading to be successful!
My Project
These writing journals will continue to enhance the fundamental base kindergarten students need in writing and reading. My students really enjoy-expressing their new learning and thoughts on paper. All of these journals have been chosen with my students in mind-I have watched them the past few weeks of school learning to hold a pencil, practice letter formation, creative writing and seen them flourish in their drawings. My students will be able to continue to writing for each subject area with the right journals.
With these new journals, my students will be able to stay organized in each subject that will allow them to continue to learn at their own grade level.
They already have shown an astonishing interest in creative writing, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the, new learning, written words and drawings.
