Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember when you first learned how to write? Do you wish you could see what your writing was like then? A primary journal will give my students a place to put their ideas and illustrations. It will also give them a place to monitor their writing growth.
The young writers in my classroom could use these journals to practice their skills.
Having writing journals in the classroom will also give my students the opportunity to see their writing growth over time. If a student is unable to finish their writing piece, they will be able to work on in at another time without having to worry that they misplaced their paper.
My Kindergarten class consists of 24 students who come in each morning, excited to learn. They come from a wide range of backgrounds, speak a variety of languages, and have huge imaginations! My school is a Title I school, located in an urban district, where each student receives free breakfast and lunch daily.
My Project
These writing journals will give my students the resources they need in order to practice their beginning writing skills. They will be used each day. The journal provides students a space to illustrate their writing at the top of the page. This will help early writers who cannot yet form sentences and will also help more established writers inspire their story telling. When the year is finished, the journal will also serve as a wonderful keepsake for students to see their early writing.
The magnetic bookshelf will give my students the opportunity to access stories we read in class at their eye level.
Right now it is difficult for my students to access stories we are working on during centers. The magnetic shelf will allow me to have stories low enough where students can reach.
The school budget has been drastically cut again this year, making it difficult to give my students the supplies they will need on a daily basis.
Please consider helping this project so that my students will have the supplies they need to have a successful year in Kindergarten.
