Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school strives to find the leader in all students. Every child has capabilities, talents, and strengths; sometimes, all it takes is exposure or motivation. The students in my class strive for excellence. They all inherently care about one another and continually make an effort to improve in all aspects.
My students have a variety of learning disabilities and put forth tremendous effort every day to access the curriculum.
Additional learning materials are typically necessary for my students to equitably access the curriculum.
The children in my classroom are exceptional individuals that show their care and concern for each other and their learning environment.
My Project
As my students all have learning disabilities that impact their ability to access the general education curriculum, I am always on the hunt for engaging activities and resources. I am so excited that I found TASK BOXES. I have implemented some of these into my classroom and WOW! Student engagement has increased and there is no more, "What should I do now?" when a student finishes their work. Grab a task box and go!
In a nutshell, task boxes are created by the teacher to focus on one skill, such as fine motor, addition facts, or sorting.
They are housed in a storage container, utilize manipulative materials, incorporate self-checking, and include high-interest materials. Often times task boxes are exploratory, and other times they are skill-based. There is no limit to the amount or type of task box that can be created.
I have been laminating materials for the few task boxes I have created. I am excited to be able to continue creating task boxes for my students through the donation of these materials.
