My students are kind and curious and range from four years old to eleven. During a normal school year, they visit the library media center each week to engage in arts integration and curricular related lessons and they are given the freedom of self-selecting books to take home for the week. We pack in a lot of learning! A large portion of my kids are from low income homes and many are homeless. It is amazing how they are committed to learning despite their challenges outside of the school. The library media center offers a safe and warm environment for all students who need routine, structure, and extra caring.
My Project
This DonorsChoose Project is assisting us with providing our students with a complete set of Battle Books. This will allow our students to take the books home with them outside of the school day specifically to make notes, highlight passages, and reread as needed. This project is also funding the love of reading while building a home library. Participating in a book club allows students to connect to the global community as well as each other!
Books Open the Doors to Discovery.
Reading a variety of books also gives students a chance to explore genres and become better readers.
