GO GREEN! This phrase may at times seem like a passing fad. The truth of the matter is, recycling is necessary for the future of our Earth. Our children are the ones who will inherit this amazing planet from us, and they need to be equipped with the tools and knowledge to be able to sustain it!
My students are an amazing bunch of 2nd graders attending a low income New York City public school.
My classroom has a number of English Language Learners, and students with special needs, who are being mainstreamed into general education. In our classroom, we push children to not only be good students, but to be good teachers to one another. My students enjoy learning and growing together with their peers.
At our school, we have an annual science fair in which each classroom chooses a topic to study, researches and conducts experiments, and presents their work with a hands-on, interactive exhibit. This year, we want to study recycling. We will be researching the process of recycling and how waste goes through a recycling plant. We will also try to answer the bigger question of WHY we recycle and how does recycling improve the Earth? We will read and write extensively on this topic as we also conduct experiments in preparation for our science fair presentation.
My Project
With these books, my students will be able to research the topic of recycling in depth. They will learn about the various methods of recycling and be able to explore ideas about why recycling is so important. With the information we learn from these books, they will create an interactive presentation for our school science fair. While that is one primary goal of this project, I have a deeper goal as well. I want my students to come away with a sense of responsibility, and an understanding that as citizens of the Earth, they need to take care of it. This is their home, and it will be their job to ensure the Earth is a clean, safe place to live.
Please donate to help us add these informative books to our classroom library.
Help my students learn how to research a topic while also teaching them valuable lessons about citizenship and responsibility. Donating to this project will not only help my students, but will help them to help the Earth as a whole. We want this planet to be one our children's children will be proud of. Thank you for your support.
