We are not throwing away our shot! Welcome to Johnsonville! I am so excited to teach a group of bright, curious and exceptional gifted students in a self-contained gifted classroom. We work intentionally to make our classroom a cohesive, inclusive learning community that includes students from various socio-economic and cultural backgrounds with multiple learning styles and needs. We want to include digital citizenship!
My students are highly motivated by technology and interested in integrating technology in what we are studying in the classroom across all content areas as well as using technology to enhance presentations.
When we study earth and space science, each student in the classroom creates a power point that includes graphics, fonts, online pictures, and animations. Their presentations featured main ideas, facts, and definitions.
In exploring the events leading up to the American Revolution, students create a time-line in Microsoft Word that includes important people, places and events.
My students also enjoy using educational websites in the classroom that enrich, extend and supplement content across all curricula areas.
I am so proud of how eager my students have been to integrating technology and computer skills. Technology has been wonderful in meeting our digital needs.
My Project
Recently my class did a project in which we explored homes from different countries and cultures and compared those homes to our homes. We could not have done this project without technology and/or chrome books. We needed chrome books to access our primary website, Google Earth. We needed chromebooks to then record and present our observations and reflections in Google sheets. This project was a great way to explore our central theme of the importance of home - no matter where you live. Having chrome books for students was the only way to access this project and to study online.
Without the use of chromebooks student learning is limited.
Each student having individual classroom chrombooks would enhance our abilities to access great websites like Google Earth. Chromebooks are essential!
