This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students I teach are all kiddos with comprehensive needs, mostly students on the spectrum. We work on alternative curriculum along with communication skills, living skills, social skills, and independent skills. These students are with me for three years and spend this time slowly building onto the skills they learn, one step at a time. Slow and steady as they say. We work on helping the kids to become productive members of not only the school, but community as well.
My Project
The students run a coffee cart for staff each morning, taking orders and delivery of said orders. Then near the end of the day, the students work their job again restocking, washing dishes, and refilling items that were used in the morning. As we build skills I add to the tasks that students are asked to complete or give them some independence and freedom to complete tasks alone. I would like to build on their job skills by giving them the chance to punch in and out of work each day. This time clock and time cards would also serve to give students a real feel for work and start to put time into a more functional concept for them.
