My 4th grade class is a fantastic group of young people. We live in a little town in Wyoming in the middle of the desert. Even though we are hours away from most things we still manage to go on plenty of field trips to explore the place we call home. Our school is 90% free and reduced lunch but our students love to learn and succeed. We have 60 minutes of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) time built into our daily schedule for hands on learning plus after school STEAM classes that teach students everything from cooking and sewing to computer programming.
Using technology to enhance our assignments and projects is one of my major goals.
My students use their laptops to create presentations, videos, art, and many other things to enhance our daily reading, writing and math activities. We work on programming, second language learning, and multimedia projects as much as possible because our world is changing and technology is the future.
My Project
Our school puts a strong emphasis on STEAM programs (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). The Cricut will let students use some of their computer coding and design skills they have been working on and give it real world applications. They can add designs to posters and presentations, create real characters and backgrounds to create comics or short stories, print objects for dioramas, and design pictures using angles and measurements.
A Cricut can lead to possibilities my students don't even know are possible.
They will be ecstatic about the technology aspect of using this machine, and it could even lead to an interest in computer science careers. I am so excited to see how this machine can change the way we do projects and to see all the creative uses for this machine.
