Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from low socioeconomic homes. Many have parents who are incarcerated or speak a different language. Approximately 90% of our students qualify for free and reduced price breakfast and lunch. They walk to the school over the summer to eat breakfast and lunch. They have very few learning experiences outside of the classroom. However, just like every child, they have a strong desire to learn and achieve.
Students need a way to learn to read at their level and grow as readers!
Teaching students to read, or become stronger readers, requires more individualized instruction starting at their instructional level.
My Project
When students are learning to read or they are strengthening their reading skills, they need a huge variety of books. These Me Readers allow several books in one spot. This helps to build their reading stamina. In addition to Me Readers, students need the opportunity to read topics that reflect their world.
Readers need to read and hear books that are engaging and that represent that they know and feel themselves.
The titles included in this project will allow students to identify with emotions that they feel and and learn ways in which to deal with these emotions. Other titles give the students access to high engaging non fiction text.
