This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students COULDN'T WAIT to crack open my 3-year old class set of Sphero RVR robots to use along side our brand new class set of RVR+ robots! This was their chance to work on building skills they can potentially use in a future career! Our coding lessons were going well until my old RVRs' batteries started dying after using them a short time. The old guys' batteries just couldn't keep up with the battery power from the new robots.
The students were getting frustrated and discouraged because they could see their peers who were coding and testing their programs sent to the new RVR+ robots with the fresh batteries, while they had to stop to switch out batteries.
This lag is costing our class time and motivation. Fresh, new batteries will allow them to better use their time creating advanced programs and give them the motivation to push further.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
