Help me give my students high interest books for a wide range of interests, cultural backgrounds, and ability levels. I'm hoping to add about 60 books to my classroom library for the 175 students I teach each year.

My Students
Freshman enter high school with budding interests in sports and arts and high social expectations, but most ninth graders come searching for their niche and a place to belong. While I believe literature provides the opportunity to explore big ideas and develop empathy, many students lose their interest in reading as schooling becomes more rigorous than playful in upper grades. I hope to combat this by creating a classroom where students can connect with literature matched with their age and interests.
My Project
My students read independently for ten minutes in class each day. The biggest challenge I face right now is having enough of the right books to put in the hands of my students. We're three months into school and several of my students have read 5-10 books already, and a few special books have generated a word-of-mouth waiting list of eager freshman. But many students haven't found an author or subject they connect with... yet!
I'm looking forward to introducing authors like Walter Dean Myers for students who love sports and books like To All the Boys I've Ever Loved to sway students to turn from Netflix to reading.
With your help, many ninth graders will develop a lifelong understanding of the power of words and stories in our lives.
