Our school is located in a rural Texas community. The high school band consists of students in grades 8-12. They enjoy performing exciting shows for their school and their community. Although our community is hoping that we will return to in-school learning, we also need to prepare for our students that will elect to participate in distance learning opportunities.
The band students take pride in their accomplishments while looking forward to presenting challenging and entertaining performances this upcoming season.
Learning music through band performance instills creativity, musicianship, and unity for our students. Even now when we can't be together in the band hall, they keep their spirit up and band family together by spending time together online.
My Project
Our jazz band is keeping their spirits high and music going through the Covid-19 epidemic. Knowing that August will be here soon, we want to make sure we are prepared to provide a music curriculum that promotes the continued study of music performance. My goal is to create music folders for the students to take home and participate in an online jazz band ensemble.
The study of jazz will promote additional instrumental performance opportunities for our students.
While currently in distance learning mode, learning various music genres will provide a refreshing opportunity for our students to work on new literature and increase performance capabilities. In addition, this new music will spark a desire to practice music and hopefully give the students performance opportunities to look forward to once distance learning is completed.
