My sixth-grade students are resilient, inclusive, and kind to their teachers and peers -- inside AND outside of their school community! This group of sixth grade students are SO happy to be back in school and learning in the classroom this year with their teachers and classmates. The joy I see on their faces every day when they get to participate in our literacy and reading lessons makes me so happy and inspires me to be the very best educator to my students.
My sixth grader's favorite place to learn and read is the classroom library -- Classroom libraries increase student motivation, engagement, and achievement and help students become critical thinkers, analytical readers, and informed citizens!
This is why I would love to support my student's learning by providing them with brand new books and bookshelves in their classroom library. There is something magical about holding a new book and reading with your peers in an inspiring and comfortable library setting. Your support will continue to ignite their love for reading and learning!
My sixth grade students love the author, Jason Reynolds! It's hard to find stories that my students can relate to, but Jason's first novel, Ghost, has captivated them. The main character, Castle Cranshaw, and has taught my middle school students how to cope with their fears and have the courage to overcome obstacles.
Jason Reynolds is the author my students have been waiting for!
By supporting my project, you are supporting my student's social and emotional needs by providing them with the rest of Jason Reynolds' "Track" series. His books: Patina, Sunny, and Lu are the next books to follow "Ghost." My students are craving their stories because they are relatable to my student's own lives and experiences. This series challenges students to have empathy, finding reliable mentors, and nonviolent ways to stand up to bullying.
