Remember the Holocaust. It should never be forgotten, and it is essential to educate our children on tolerance and the events surrounding the Holocaust and WWII. I am a 7th and 8th grade English Language Arts teacher. We are a small public school with very little funding for classroom resources. Our students would be so much more engaged in their education if they had more up-to-date and hands-on resources.

Even the most unmotivated student becomes excited and involved when World War II history and literature are being studied. My students have so many questions on this subject. Having more resources would give them more answers and an even richer experience.

Normally, I teach my WWII and Holocaust unit to my 8th grade, but I also wanted to give my 7th graders a little bit of background on this subject. I thought it would be amazing to introduce them to Japan's involvement in WWII and to Japanese internment camps in the US. In addition to the historical background, I wanted to incorporate two novels: Sadako and a Thousand Paper Cranes and Farewell to Manzanar. Both of these novels relate this war-time experience through the eyes of a child.
