I teach special needs children in a school designed for ADHD and Asberger's Autism. Many of our students have never experienced the joy of successful learning because they have been pushed aside by other institutions. My 12 boys are bright, energetic, eager, and caring students who desire to achieve their highest learning level if someone will just give them a chance. Our school strives to take in children who struggle academically, socially and emotionally to help them cope with their diagnosis and teach them to overcome their disabilities and achieve success. We can only achieve this goal if we have the proper technology and equipment to aid in their success.
Because our students are 90% tactile learners, they need hands on activities that are different from a traditional school setting. Our students face fine motor skill issues that keep them from writing a paper. They suffer from frustration levels that exceed what would be considered a typical student. They just can't physiologically sit and write complete thoughts without the aids of technology. Many of our students must type their essays or journal entries just for legibility. Right now all we have is the ability to edit our documents the old fashioned way. I want our students to experience first hand the joys of making progress by editing their document in front of their peers who they themselves can encourage one another to succeed.
The only solution to this dilemma we have is to have an all in one printer that would enable us to scan a document into our Smart Board, edit the document live, and print out the corrections so the student can immediately begin revising his project.
