Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in a lower SES area of Atlanta. They are starting a new year in a brand new location for their school. They work extremely hard to rise above their circumstances. They come to school every day eager to expand their knowledge, learn new information, show their teachers what they already know, and to have "lightbulb" moments every day.
Many of the students love learning something new about music every week.
They thrive on structure, rituals, and having fun while learning. Many of them have "lightbulb" moments at least once a week or once a month in my class. The students try to do their best even though it is difficult to practice at home. They work extremely hard every day and love to make connections from my class to things happening in their world outside my classroom. I am so lucky to have such a great opportunity to teach every student in this school and to touch their lives in a positive way.
My Project
This rug will help tie in different aspects of the music themes taught in the classroom. It adds interactive areas for learning games, and also to help reinforce the rituals of how to sit in the classroom.
The music staff on the middle of the rug will help the 4th and 5th graders learn the names and locations of each note.
The younger grades will use the pictures around the outside of the rug to identify musical instruments and musical symbols. The bright colors also will help with asking the students where to sit and where to find a specific musical item.
