This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We come from a low income charter school on the southeast side of our city. Our students come from a background of very limited experiences outside of the home. They are curious students who are ready and willing to learn about the outside world. The students often come in with learning difficulties, and some have already completely disengaged from learning.
We have found that they are very capable, and love learning when they are given a chance to be really engaged in the learning process and experience success in new ways.
My Project
JA Biztown offers a simulated city experience that students will never forget! Our students are curious about what goes into operating a city. They are excited to interview for jobs, perform their duties as city leaders, and make grown-up decisions. They will use the internet for research concerning employment and city government. They will use their writing skills to apply for jobs, and they will brush up on their interviewing skills to interview for those jobs. Experiencing JA Biztown will allow our students to be exposed to jobs they may have not considered, discover new interests, and make long-lasting memories with their classmates.
