My Students

My students are a generous mix of resilient and strong-willed. They may be in a lower performing school district, but that doesn't stop their dreams and ambitions. My students are caring and often go above and beyond to make their school a better place.

Many of my students struggle with real-world experiences and connecting their potential with careers in which they could someday be doing.

Overall, they are amazing individuals with a "if I see it, I can be it" attitude.

As a result, I struggle to bring as much career diversity, hands-on activities, and technology into our classroom.

My Project

My students are a wide range of learners and of different types. Overall, my students love games. IXL science offers them the content they need with the competition and instant gratification they crave in the classroom. As a math teacher, I have used IXL to close gaps and individualize instruction. After trying the science version, I have found that the higher order thinking questions mixed with repetition has helped in retention in science.

These students are highly engaged in science, but need more focus on content to ensure retention.

I feel these shorter focused lessons provided by IXL can be the defining factor in determining their success in the science classroom.
