My classes consist of twelve 7th and 8th-grade students ranging from Mild to Moderate/Severe disabilities. While teaching online, I break the students up into small groups of 3-4 to help support their needs more closely and to focus on their IEP goals. I work closely with the two Resource Specialists who also work with many of my students in English Language Arts and Math.
Many of my students are diagnosed with Autism.
Many of them need visuals and lots of prompting to stay focused and to socialize.
My Project
Having access to IXL will give my students with special needs access to lessons that will support their growth in all core subject areas. My students range in ability from Kindergarten to 4th grade levels. IXL was very helpful last school year when schools shut down to work with students at different levels and fill in educational gaps. This program can easily be worked on independently or in a small group. There are many lessons that I can connect and assign in conjunction with general education book materials. I often have general education materials that are difficult for my students to understand since they are behind in their reading. IXL often has the option of read aloud and gives feedback to students to encourage and correct as they go along.
