Bozhoo! That is how you say hello in Ojibwe. I teach first grade students in a school that is located on a Native American reservation. Most of my students come from generational poverty, which can bring trauma. Every year, I do my best to create a classroom family where each child feels safe, successful, and loved.
“I hear and I forget; I see and I remember; I do and I understand.” -Confucius.
My students start each day eager to learn, create, and explore. My job, as their teacher, is to help each child reach their full potential. They excel with hands-on activities that engage them. That is why I do my best to find engaging lessons that will help them grow personally and academically, so that they can develop a better understanding of the world around them.
My Project
Thanks to the help of Donorschoose.org, we have eight iPads this school year. They have been a wonderful addition in our classroom. I have seen much growth in my class’ reading skills because they are able to practice skills in an engaging way. It would be wonderful if we could receive two more iPads for a total of ten.
iPads engage students and create active learners.
With ten iPads, that would give each child the opportunity to share a device with one other classmate. It would be great practice for the students to work with a partner to practice their math facts and other math skills. They will also be able do some phonics skills with a partner, too.
Miigwech (thank you) for taking an interest in our Project!
