Our school is a primary-age building of 250 kindergarten and first grade students. Many of our students enter school with underdeveloped important "school" skills to be a successful student. They need to learn how to be socially responsible, develop good study habits, appropriately deal with overwhelming feelings, or utilize self-regulating skills. These are life skills that enable all students to not only excel academically but also in life.
We want to turn those "I can't do school" into "I've got this!"
Many primary-age students enter school with underdeveloped important "school" skills to be a successful student. It is critical at this early stage of schooling that students learn life skills such as responsibility, respect and being safe to learn and thrive in a school environment.
These funds will be used to purchase resources to teach social skills, good study habits and important interpersonal and self-regulating skills.
Skill Streaming resources, which are research-based, will be used by classroom teachers as well as counselors to work with small groups or to provide one-on-one intensive support. All teachers will have these materials readily available for easy, just-in-time use as needed.
Empowering our young friends with these skills in their early years of school will help them know – they’ve got this!
