I teach in a public tuition-based pre-k classroom with 20 inventive, creative and amazing 4/5 year olds. Music and Movement is a part of our daily schedule and musical instruments are available during free play. We sing and listen to music everyday, it all starts with our good morning song which tells the children our day is ready to begin.
Students have so much fun dancing and singing along with recorded music as well as creating their own songs.
We engage students small and large motors skills by clapping or marching along to the beat of our favorite songs. We use rhyming poems sung to simple tunes to help students transition from one activity to another throughout the day. The more we sing the happier we become.
My Project
Imagine 20 children marching around the classroom tapping their Rhythm Sticks to a favorite song. Not only are they having fun, but they are building skills which helps them learn and grow. Music and movement improves memory and cognitive development while enriching student vocabulary, physical development and imagination.
"Tap them high, tap them low, tap them fast and tap them slow".
Egg Shakers and Boomwhackers can also be used to preform along with simple songs or be used to make up their own songs. By providing a variety of materials students will be exposed to different sounds as well as new vocabulary to help define what they are experiencing.
