Our students come from varied backgrounds and are eager to learn. They see school as a place that can help them be successful in school and in life. Although faced with outside challenges beyond their control, these students have what it takes to be successful.
I have many students in my class that have special needs.
I would love to accommodate them in the classroom by giving them more support and materials that will help them become successful and boost their confidence.
My Project
Giving students options for their learning allows them to take charge and make the choices that work best for them. During our independent work times they can choose locations in the classroom that work best for them. Currently my students can choose to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, sitting under tables with clip boards, or sitting or laying on the floor with a pillow. Making sure students are comfortable is important in motivating them. I have noticed that when given a choice in their seating, my students will go to an area that makes them comfortable. They are engaged and more focused at the activity we are doing.
My students are more engaged in their work when they have different seating options that they get to choose from.
The product that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The lower desk allows students who enjoy sitting on the floor, a more stable writing surface to use. The students will also have lightweight chairs they can sit on while working at the desk.
Giving my students a choice in their learning environment allows them to take ownership in their learning while being comfortable at the same time.
