My students need another read aloud. The One and Only Ivan would be a great addition to our reading materials.
This project expired on June 25, 2015.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
Reading out of a textbook can be so mundane. Our kids need to be more excited and have practice reading novels. The One and Only Ivan is an exciting story told from Ivan's point of view.
Our school is a Title 1 school, which means 75% of our students receive free and reduced lunch.
The students struggle everyday to get their basic needs met and may not have the support at home to read. These students do not have the motivation to read a novel. With 50% having a learning disability, our goal is to build our students' stamina. Having a unit on the story The One and Only Ivan, can help the students dive into the book deeper and truly immerse themselves into the story.
Our final unit for the class will be about narrative writing, and character's points of view. Using the story The One and Only Ivan will motivate the students to write their own stories and learn how the author used research to help her write her own book.
The donations would update my library with a new read aloud.
The students would be able to relate to the struggles of the main character Ivan, and help them become better readers. They will be able to understand how Science, Math, Social Studies, and Reading can all help you dive into a story deeper.
