Ms. Wilkening from Markham IL is requesting a class trip through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a field trip to the Lincoln Park Zoo as a reward for all of their effort and hard work.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Every morning, we start off the day saying our creed. We try to be the best that can be. Every day we try to learn from our mistakes and make better choices. The goal for our students is to make it to Level 4. The reward is an end-of-the-year field trip.
I work at a day therapeutic school for children who are emotionally disturbed.
They are wonderful children who have been through a lot. For many, school has not been a positive experience, and we are trying to change that, so that they can experience some success in school. The school operates on a level system and with a PBIS Program. Level 4 is the highest level that you can achieve. We have a lot of rewards in place to motivate our students to make positive changes in their behavior. The end-of-the-year field trip is a big motivator and something that the students look forward to all year long.
The students who have achieved level 4 status will be taking a field trip to the Lincoln Park Zoo. Students will have the opportunity to spend the day in the city of Chicago. Many of our students have never been to the City. The students will also have an opportunity to see all the exotic animals that the zoo has to offer. The students will also have the chance to go to the Children's Zoo and perhaps get to pet an animal at the Farm. They will also have an opportunity to go the Reptile House where they may get to pet a lizard or turtle and learn all about these creatures. It will be a day filled with learning opportunities and a celebration for a job well done.
The field trip is a huge motivator and therefore kids are really going to be working hard towards this by making sure that their behavior is appropriate and that they make it to Level 4.
Many of our students don't have opportunities to go and see the world, and this gives them a glimpse of a world that is bigger than the block they live on or the school they attend. It gives students the opportunity to dream and to have a day that is filled with wonder and amazement and to see that hard work pays off.
