My students need Osmo, Little Bits and Makey Makey, to develop social-emotional skills, creative thinking, art, STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).
My students will range from kindergarten to fifth grade, they are eager to learn and not afraid to take a risk. Students come from hard working duel income families living in a suburban area outside of Houston, TX. We have over a thousand students in our school. Next school year another teacher and myself will be in a nontraditional library, learning community and need resources to engage and encourage problem solving. Students will come to the learning commons with different backgrounds and skill sets; however, they all love the opportunity to explore and discover.
My Project
Students using these products will create, discover, and problem solve using critical thinking skills. Weekly students will come to the learning commons to discover activities that go beyond the books. Children need time to play and explore without there always being an answer that is considered "right". By offering a variety of technology tools such as: Little Bits, Osmos coding, and a Makey Makey kit, I hope to create a spark within a child that will encourage them to try something different. Children need to be given the opportunity to test and try projects with technology to help them discover the "what if" within an environment of an unknown where the "what if" is okay and accepted.
