Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our High School is a Title I school and most students come from low-income families. All students receive free-lunch due to their socio-economic status.
One of the best ways that we can motivate our students is to provide them with opportunities to see what they can realistically become after high school.
Many of our students do not excel in school because they have not set goals for themselves, and that often happens because they don't know what opportunities will be available to them. They are afraid of reaching for goals that are unrealistic.
But all of our students are just as capable as the students in more affluent districts. They just need a chance to succeed. I have worked with these kids for almost 20 years and I really want to help them.
My Project
It is important for our students to learn to create and produce videos professionally no matter what they plan to do after high school. If they decide to pursue a career in video production or journalism or marketing or even education, they could end up needing those skills all of the time. If they don't know what they want to do yet, they might just need them to boost the chances of their college applications. And, while they are still in high school, they can use them to provide a service to their community.
Nowadays everybody expects to see professionally produced videos, and that's exactly what the Video Communication Club would like to provide, but first, we need to upgrade our equipment.
We currently use an older camera to record school events as well as interviews with students and faculty. Even though it is a nice camera, it does not provide the resolution that our students and viewers see everywhere else. It is hard to convince students that we can help them learn video production if they see that our own videos lack the quality they expect to see. At a reasonable cost, this camera, Sony - Handycam AX33 4K Flash Memory Camcorder, would provide a quantum leap for our program.
This investment would not only help us to enhance the career prospects of our own students, but it would allow us to improve the quality of the videos that we record for the community.
