I am a "push in" music teacher, meaning that I have no classroom. I am dependent on the technology in the rooms where I teach and almost always the teachers are uncomfortable with others using their equipment. I need my own projector to insure quality instruction with no lapses from tech problems.
My students live in a high poverty area and go to a Title I school.
These children are extremely talented musically and love to learn, play and perform. With a projector, I can open up their world to see and hear the masters. There is a great difference in hearing Ella Fitzgerald sing How High The Moon and scat for 7 minutes and WATCHING her do it.
My Project
I have a large number of music videos downloaded onto USBs..these videos help me to show the children music from all over the world, the multitude of instruments, the creativity of different countries, while, at the same time learning the rhythms and melodies that come from there. I include Geography in my World Music unit as the children are also fascinated by maps (as am I).
Secondly, we do a unit on Jazz and I have most of the jazz masters playing and/or singing. I cannot tell you what an energy exists in the room! I have to watch like a hawk!!
There are also wonderful websites such as classicsforkids that introduce the children to the composers and interactive learning sites such as sfskids where one can click on the picture of the instrument and it will turn and the kids can see it from all sides and hear the sound that it makes.
Also, of course, any DVD can be shown. It's invaluable!
And, CD's!!!!
Your donations to this project will help my kids in many ways.
First of all, no time will be lost trying to figure out how to present my lesson. It's very disruptive if you don't have your own materials immediately available.
The wealth and breadth of information that I can share with them from computer, through projector is infinite. In short, it will change the quality of their musical education exponentially. Thank you!
