Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are diverse and very curious. Their families come from at least four different countries. They are fourth graders who vary in age from 9-11 years old. The majority come from Spanish-speaking countries.

I teach Social Studies and Science to these students who are looking forward to middle school.

These subjects (all subjects) are best mastered when students can relate them to their everyday lives. Please.

Most of them are eager learners who like to share what they learned.

My Project

Our students haven’t been exposed to much beyond their neighborhoods. While learning about the history of our nation is important, “Time for Kids” will enable me to also expose students to current events while reinforcing skills in non-fiction reading. This magazine will help students see how the facts found in their Science and Social Studies textbooks are related to what’s happening in today’s news. I want students to learn how to read and evaluate information and empower them to make decisions based on their own evaluations. Time for Kids will provide weekly magazines that can be taken home each week.
