I teach second grade at a high-needs, urban school in northwest Washington. Many families in our community have few educational resources at home.

Providing students access to a variety of reading materials is critical in developing well-rounded, knowledgeable readers. As a new teacher, I am trying to fill my classroom with texts of many kinds. I have found plenty of picture books to begin my classroom library, but few nonfiction texts. It can be difficult to find nonfiction texts that children are interested in and are at a primary reading level.

I need 30 copies of the children's nonfiction news magazine Time for Kids. Having a new edition of Time for Kids in my classroom each week will benefit my students in numerous ways. Some of the benefits include: - Students will receive texts at their level that they can take home and share with their families - Students will increase their skills in nonfiction comprehension - Students will be able to think critically about events happening locally and around the world
