Help me give my students a subscription to Time for Kids to provide them access to current events around the world and help make them informed citizens.
I teach 22 fourth graders who are eager to learn. My classroom is not just a place to learn, it is also a place where my students discover that they are able to change the world through the choices and decisions they make in their lives.
The majority of students at my school receive free or reduced-price lunch, meaning they qualify for at least part, if not all, of the cost of their meals to be paid for by the district due to low parent income at home.
Many of my students come from low-income homes and this can negatively impact their ability to learn successfully.
I teach students at all levels - from above level, to on level, to below level. However, they all come to school wanting to learn with positive attitudes about school, no matter what is going on in their lives. They are hard workers who want to do good things with their lives and they know it starts here in the classroom.
My Project
My students are in need a subscription to Time For Kids magazines to help them be aware of current events around the world. Let's face it, most 4th graders are the center of their world. They need to be reminded that things are happening in the world around them, and these magazines will help them to become better citizens and better people.
In today's world, having access to events around the world can sometimes be difficult, especially for a kid.
Time for Kids magazine will provide a weekly subscription for my students to see what is happening both here in the United States, and around the world. They will be able to access online content to help support what they are reading about and help them to dig deeper into what they are reading.
Sometimes, we need to show kids that there is a world outside of their current space, and this magazine will help to provide that context for them. Not only will it help to make them better-informed citizens about the world around them, but it will also help to make them better people as they learn to empathize with others around the planet and see that our world is very different from those on other continents. And what does this world need more than people who can help do the right thing for themselves and others around them?
