Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My school is located in the inner-city, however, my students come from all over the city. They chose my school for its innovative approach. We have an outdoor classroom, place-based instruction, and arts integration. My school inspires my students and me to be more creative and thoughtful. This year I want to be innovative and allow my students some choice in the classroom. Many of my students don’t have a lot of control over their situations. Letting them have a voice in the classroom helps to build community.

My Project

These materials will help turn my classroom into a creative Mecca. The children will be able to choose the type of seating that helps them be the most successful.

When students are comfortable and relaxed, they are most able to learn.

My school puts an emphasis on being student-centered and flexible seating will help to achieve that in my classroom.

Research has shown flexible seating increases focus and stamina. Two of the most important factors for students to be available to learn. I hope to create a safe, comfortable space for my students where they feel valued and happy.
