My students need to understand that history is happening now. Thirty subscriptions to Time for Kids will help make that connection real.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do your children, grandchildren, nieces, or nephews receive National Geographic Kids, Ranger Rick, or any other educational children's magazines? Unfortunately most of my students don't have this luxury.
Many of my students who are second language learners have limited material resources for a variety of reasons.
Although they may not have a lot, they have loving and caring parents. Unfortunately, their parents have limited money due to the economy. They are just making it like many of us. I would like for these bright and eager learners to be exposed to more than just their text books. They enjoy when I bring in articles that relate to them. They are young sponges soaking in the information.
My Project
Being able to have a weekly subscription to Time for Kids will help their eager minds to elicit thought provoking questions and conversations in the class as well as at home. Time for Kids exposes them to current events written in a kid friendly way. It is an inspirational and informative kids mini-magazine.
My school use to fund each class with a subscription. Due to budget cuts we have not been able to subscribe for several years. Although the students may not know what they are missing, I do. My previous experience using this resource made a difference for many of my students. The students who didn't want to learn or read about history became interested. They looked forward to receiving their weekly subscription. In addition to our conversations and debates in class, they loved taking them home and sharing with their family.
My goal is to have the students be life long learners.
Time for Kids helps me to achieve this goal by exposing them beyond their city, state, and country. I have found that using this magazine has helped them want to read more and learn more. By using this magazine students become curious which leads to investigation and questioning. There is always an article that sparks an interest in each student. That's what your donation will do for my students.
