Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 4th grade at a Title I school in the Southwestern United States. My students are active, enthusiastic, and excited to learn! I am so proud of how they are able to build ideas off of one another and participate in excellent class discussions.
Although many of my students have already faced great challenges in their lives, they have proven to be strivers.
I am constantly reminded that they have so much to contribute when they are given the right tools to express themselves. My students and I are working together to build a collaborative community built on a foundation of respect and empathy.
My Project
I come to you after attempting to use construction paper weighed down with rocks as bases for a kickball game (where we also had to use a student's ball from home!). I am responsible for both the physical and academic education of my class, and I am sorely lacking proper PE equipment.
My students are very high-energy, and I want to give them opportunities to get active in a way that not only improves their health, but also brings them closer together through teamwork and play!
We will use the balls, bases, bat, cones, pinnies, and basketball for team sports practice, and the training ladder for warmup activities. I know that my students will be so excited to get active with these supplies!
