This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an enthusiastic, imaginative group of fifth graders. They are living in an inner-city community. Many are living in shelters. Some are English Language Learners and others have an Individualized Educational Plan. There are many students who have repeated a grade. Most face challenges both inside and outside of school on a daily basis. Despite these challenges, they love learning. They work hard every day in school and at home. They work with classmates to problem solve. They have goals and are working hard to achieve them.

My Project

Having class sets of these two books will allow for the end of the year to be a captivating time. These books have engaged so many students and reluctant readers to become avid, enthusiastic bibliophiles.

Harry Potter and Coraline allow the reader's imagination to run wild.

Students will see why reading can enhance your life. The excitement that will be generated by these books will be a great way to end the year.

Settling down in our cozy library, lights dimmed, books in hand, will bring us together as we explore new worlds and then have thought provoking discussions about these books.
