Our band consists of 30-40% of our high school population. They are in every sport, club, leadership role, and advanced class that our school district offers. Many of our students attend a dual-enrollment class and continue to be role model students.
Our school is in the poorest part of our county and the needs of our students are many.
While the school is rebounding from hard years financially, the band program is continuing to excel at the highest standards. Our students are hard working, and driven to prove that a small school can perform at the same standards of schools of bigger size and a plethora of resources. Our students do not realize that some things are considered difficult, instead they meet the challenge head on and push past their limits.
Donations and products received from this project are not a requirement for the program, and all donations through donors choose will go the school.
My Project
The reed on a woodwind instrument is what gives the instrument its ability to make sound. Many times, kids play on reeds that are well passed their life, which is usually only a couple weeks. They get nervous about asking for another one or don't have the money.
Reeds are what make the instruments sound the best they can.
By being able to have a stockpile of quality reeds, students will not have to worry about not having something that will work and will be able to get a new reed.
This reed collection will be stored in the band office and portioned out to each grade level based on strength and numbers in the group. Our saxophone section is one of the strongest and ‘spunkiest’ groups in our program.
