I am a second-grade teacher in a high poverty elementary school in southern Delaware. I have both regular education and special education students in my classroom. I also have a high population of ESL students who are either new to the country, still learning English or lacking language and vocabulary. I love teaching second grade! Second graders are enthusiastic about learning and becoming independent individuals. My students are so passionate about learning and work so hard to overcome their daily challenges from home and school. I am always looking for ways to continue to challenge my students and better prepare them for third grade.
My Project
Technology is a wonderful tool for students when you have enough for all! We are in need of an additional Chromebook. With your support, my students will no longer have to share resources, but will be able to individually benefit and grow mathematically from these tools.
With this additional Chromebook we will have tools for students to be able to use to research insects during our insect unit in science.
Students will choose an insect to study and learn about, create a poster, and share with the class. Students will engage in online webquests with the Chromebook. They will also be able to read e-books online about insects. Students will be able to look up different sources of information to include in their posters. They will then use the information they learned to create a poster focusing on their insect. Students will enjoy this unit thanks to new technology!
