Help me give my students the additional resources to supplement what they are learning. My goal is to allow the children to have fun while they're learning while also giving them the opportunity to practice math facts.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come to school with smiles on their faces eager to learn each day. They are full of wonder and surprises. They benefit from engaging, hands-on activities. My scholars are willing to immerse themselves in any challenges that come their way.
I work in a Title I school where many students are not getting the chance to be kids at home.
Despite challenges my students may face in the community, they rise against the odds and give all they can every minute of every day.
My Project
My children come from diverse backgrounds where they are not afforded the same opportunities as most students. 90% of our students receive free or reduced cost lunch. By having these materials, I will be able to provide them with the hands-on and engaging resources they deserve.
The majority of my students will be coming to third grade significantly below grade level and have encountered summer slide.
To bridge this achievement gap, having the requested activities will allow me to engage each learner and appeal to their interests.
Research has proven that integration of literacy will improve math skills due to the fact that math is more than numbers. I have included read aloud books to build a culture and community in our classroom to introduce new topics like multiplication, division, and fractions. Other materials on my wish list such as math games and fluency activities will allow students to practice in a hands-on way to keep their learning rich and engaging to ensure a lasting retention and understanding of grade level content.
