I teach an amazing grade...kindergarten! Every day is a new adventure, and I enjoy seeing their smiling faces as we learn together. My school has a high poverty rate with about 85% of students receiving free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch. Many students have no prior experience in preschool or even daycare which makes our kindergarten an exciting time with many firsts!
Kindergarten is the foundation that sets them on their way to being successful students and passionate learners that are ready to face any challenge that comes their way.
Many students come in with a range of backgrounds, skills, and abilities, and the challenge comes when they are all expected to reach the same level of reading and writing proficiency. I also must teach each child how to be a kind, successful learner that is able to build healthy, strong relationships with their peers.
My Project
Currently in my classroom I have a couple of computers but using the mouse can be difficult and frustrating for many of my students. This leads to a lot of inactive time instead of quality practice for my kindergartners. The tablets will offer a quicker and easier way for my students to practice their reading and math skills while being highly engaged in the process.
Tablets will increase engagement as well as provide another mode of interacting with their newfound knowledge of reading!
Students are always eager to use technology and will benefit greatly from learning how to use technology to further their learning.
