I work in a small, rural PreK-12 grade, Title 1 school. My students have a love for learning through reading!
What makes them unique is that they come from various backgrounds ranging from oil field, migrants, farmers, and professional families.
My students are very creative, curious, and always ready for an adventure in a new book. Teaching them about bullying, empathy and inclusion is my personal mission and goal as a teacher; I just get the joy and opportunity to do that through the love of reading! Our school serves students through rigorous academics, provides them with fantastic teachers and a safe learning environment.
My Project
We all love a good book....I'm requesting a classroom set of the best selling book, "WONDER!" We are a "WONDER CERTIFIED KIND CLASSROOM" from an initiative that focused on bringing acts of kindness, acceptance, and inclusion to life for third to sixth grade students. We worked hard on including everyone in everything at all times last semester to earn our title of being a "CERTIFIED KIND CLASSROOM." In order to keep up the lessons and to continue with next years classes, I am simply requesting enough books for 25 students to be able read and follow with me all at one time.
We will learn to embrace themes of empathy as part of a year-long lesson plan through challenges, including art projects, group discussions and class unity activities.
Therefore, I'm needing 25 hardback copies of the book WONDER for each student. I teach 3 classes of 4th Grade with a total of 23-25 students in each class. It would be amazing for each of them to have a class copy to follow along with the reading. (I do currently have 4 copies of this book and last semester they took turns following along as I read, while the other students just listened.)
