Every morning in my classroom, I start off by greeting each student with a hello! I believe as a teacher it is important to recognize each student by name, giving them a sense of worth in my classroom. I want students to feel valued and cared for!
My students come from many diverse backgrounds.
We have a high population of homeless students. We have a diverse group of scholars who come in at all different levels and abilities. My classroom has twenty-five students in it. The community I work in is a welcoming, warm, and compassionate community.
My Project
Teaching in a lower income area, students often come to school hungry and not with enough food in their lunch. Over the last three years teaching at Lowell, students often beg me for snacks and I don't always have them to give. I often beg for snacks and have to go buy them with my own money because we do not get enough donations for students to have snacks.
Because the afternoons are so long and lunch is so early, my students get very hungry and need a snack to get them through the afternoons.
It would be so helpful to have a stock up of fruit snacks, fruit leather, crackers, and more to get students the snacks they need. I can also send home extra snacks and take home food with my housing insecure students so they have a snack at home. This project will help benefit my students experiencing homelessness by giving them snacks to take home and have during school so they are less hungry.
