Just for a moment think back and remember how you viewed our world. Wasn't it a world full of awe and wonder?
What made that sound? How did that fly? Why is the moon sometimes bright?
Now image a kindergarten classroom where rigorous learning and experimentation is happening daily!
After teaching and being a Director for many years in affluent suburban areas, where 99% of our students succeed, I made a career change and six years ago started teaching in a high-needs school in the city of Philadelphia.
I believe all children can learn and succeed! WE just need to give them the power to believe it and dream it. I teach 30 beautiful Kindergartners. They attend a Title-I, Public School, where many of the children are English-Language-Learners. My kids are from around the world and speak a variety of languages. All are enthusiastic learners.
My Project
With your generosity, we will give the children I teach, the opportunity to think and hypothesize as young scientists, daily. I have created a Science Center, where six children will work together each day, collaborating on finding answers to how our world works. Using the materials from the Beginners Science Kit, the children will have the manipulatives they need to see a specimen through a microscope, gather data, compare and contrast the magnetic poles, and so on. As they use their critical thinking skills, our young children will condition their minds, to forever become, the problem-solvers of our world:)
As an educator I know that the mind of the kindergarten child is not yet hard-wired.
I am honored to help mold these young minds, to forever be critical thinkers, that think and act "outside of the box," at the same time nurturing their "Emotional Intelligence." Because these precious babies ARE tomorrow's leaders.
